On February 4, the U.S. Department of Defense will be hosting a webinar partnered with NACo’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee regarding the Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) program. The REPI Program has been working for over a decade to protect agricultural and open-space land around military installations in order to create buffer lands that mitigate encroachment pressures. To date, over 60 counties and parishes have successfully partnered with their communities and military installations, and the REPI Program has conserved over 437,000 acres of land in 29 states around 86 installations.
During the webinar, Commissioner Don Salter of Santa Rosa County, FL, will discuss how Santa Rosa County partnered with Naval Air Station Whiting Field through the REPI Program. We will also be joined by Jaime Simon, Deputy Director of the REPI Program and NACo’s Arthur Scott, Associate Legislative Director for Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
