    Luncheon: Leveraging Opioid Settlements for Health

    On July 21, 2021, a $26 billion settlement was announced between state and local governments and opioid manufacturer Johnson & Johnson and the “big three” distributors McKesson, AmerisourceBergen and Cardinal Health to resolve their liabilities in over 3,000 opioid crisis-related lawsuits nationwide. State and local governments are anticipating an influx of resources for prevention, treatment and recovery efforts in the form of opioid litigation settlement funds as well as funds from the nearly $4 billion in substance abuse and mental health funding included in the American Rescue Plan. This is an historic moment wherein states and local governments have or will soon have significant resources to combat the opioid epidemic. In this session, participants will hear the latest update on these settlements and strategies for accessing these funds to support residents struggling with addiction.
