Counties across the country are struggling with the recent rise in opioid addiction and opioid-related overdoses and deaths in their communities. During this event, county officials will watch "Heroin(e)," an original Netflix short documentary that directly addresses this issue and shares some of the solutions communities are identifying to meet these challenges. “Heroin(e)” highlights three women - the fire chief, a judge and a faith-based volunteer - working to change a West Virginia town’s narrative and break the devastating cycle of drug abuse, one person at a time. After the documentary screening, participants have the opportunity to engage in a facilitated discussion with individuals involved with the film, followed by light refreshments compliments of Healthy Counties and Smart Justice sponsors.
