    Voting Credentials and Election Process

At NACo’s virtual Annual Business Meeting on July 20 at 2 p.m. EDT, NACo members will elect our 2020-2021 officers, consider bylaws amendments, review our year of collective achievements and conduct other association business. Registration for the Annual Business Meeting is free to all NACo members.

In order to vote, each county/parish/borough is required to:

    • Pay 2020 NACo membership dues, and
    • Register a voting delegate by noon EDT on Friday, July 17, 2020.

To facilitate the virtual voting process, we encourage each member county to authorize one voting delegate.

During the election for NACo 2nd Vice President at the Annual Business Meeting, voting delegates and those designated as proxies, most commonly state associations, will vote simultaneously via a secure online platform.

NACo’s Reading Clerk, Tally Clerk, Credentials Committee and Parliamentarian, as needed, will monitor and verify votes as they are cast.

After voting delegates and alternates cast their votes, the Reading Clerk will announce state vote totals (e.g. State 1 casts X votes for Candidate A and Y votes for Candidate B). The vote totals will appear for everyone to see, and the Reading Clerk will announce all state totals, even after a candidate has reached a majority.

If no one from your county is available to attend the virtual Annual Business Meeting but you still want to vote, please contact to credentials@naco.org.

To learn more about the NACo election and voting eligibility, please visit Voting Credentials Frequently Asked Questions.  For any additional questions, please contact credentials@naco.org.

    Proposed Bylaws Changes

On May 12, 2020, the NACo Bylaws Committee held a meeting to review the proposed changes that had been approved by the Finance Committee, the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors in December 2019 at the Fall Board Meeting in Douglas County, Neb. These changes to the bylaws allowed for NACo to provide for the organization in the event of sudden financial need. Further changes were minor in nature, added to provide clarification with regard to credentials and virtual voting, given the shelter-in-place requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
