Countering Change: County Strategies for Adapting and Responding to Today’s Opioid Epidemic

The nature of the opioid epidemic has evolved over time, and with each evolution, counties have adapted to ensure our systems, services and policies meet the needs of our communities. Today, counties are facing synthetic opioids that are manufactured to be as potent as possible, regardless of the human cost. In 2020, more than 50,000 people died of an overdose involving synthetic opioids – more than any other type of opioid. Counties are expanding the reach of prevention and treatment and adopting new strategies to prevent harm and promote recovery. From youth-focused prevention to treatment in correctional settings, counties are pursuing solutions to this changing epidemic. Join NACo for a discussion with national experts and county leaders about the latest trends in the opioid epidemic and the county-led strategies that have demonstrated the greatest impact.
