The County Librarian seeks a Deputy County Librarian with the intention, commitment, personal and professional characteristics and skills to further strategic initiatives of the Library. This executive level position will assess needs and strategically plan, onboard, and evaluate critical initiatives, near-term to far-term. The position will improve our staff capacity as well, to respond, to evolve, and to dynamically become the library that the community needs over time. One of the distinguishing features of this position’s role is to help evolve our systems; this goes beyond evaluating current services, programs, and operations. Rather, we identify those things we think need examining because times have changed: things we think need a fresh look; we set priorities for what these are and this position takes the lead. The Deputy County Librarian reports to the County Librarian and is a member of the County Librarian’s executive staff. The executive staff includes the Deputy County Librarian for Community Library Development, Director of Communications and Marketing and the Financial and Administrative Services Manager. The Deputy County Librarian, Strategic Initiatives and Staff Development works in collaboration with the executive and management staff to insure a fluid, integrated program of service for residents and an optimal operational environment for residents and staff.
Typically the required knowledge and abilities are acquired through attainment of a Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited university and at least five years of recent progressively responsible supervisory and administrative experience in a community library system; at least three of which must include participation in program and policy determination either on a system wide basis or as the librarian in charge of a community library.
