Fire services are provided by the Renton Regional Fire Authority. The city has a workforce of approximately 562 regular employees and a 2017 total operating budget of $99.2 million. The Chief Administrative Officer performs administrative duties involving directing, coordinating and facilitating city projects, programs and policies, and reviewing and making recommendations on complex personnel and performance issues, policy interpretations and resource allocation issues. The CAO supervises department administrators and coordinates between the Mayor, City Council, city officials, governmental agencies and the community.

A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or a related field, and 6 years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory municipal or public sector administration and management experience is required. Candidates may possess any combination of relevant education and experience that demonstrates their ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
