The Washington Post Editorial Board recently called for the end of the policy of inmate Medicaid exclusion:
"An end to the inmate exclusion policy and an infusion of Medicaid funding would help dramatically. But it would do more than just shift some of the financial burden onto the federal budget.
It would right a serious inequity. Federal law requires that even those who are jailed while awaiting trial — that is, people who cannot afford bail — lose their Medicaid coverage."
