On January 7, NACo updated the toolkit, Tracking COVID Relief for Human Services and Education Programs, to include provisions from the most recently enacted COVID relief bill, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (P.L. 116-260). This brief tracks the ongoing implementation of COVID-19 emergency funding and flexibilities for federal human services and education programs.
Key updates include the following:
- A temporary 15 percent increase of monthly SNAP benefits, a key county priority.
- New emergency funding for K-12 education, child care subsidies, the Head Start program and elder justice programs and more.
- Provisions from the Supporting Foster Youth and Families through the Pandemic Act (H.R. 7947), another key county priority.
NACo will continue to monitor federal relief funds for critical human services and education programs and update the brief with relevant program guidance.
