On April 15, NACo released an executive summary of President Biden’s Fiscal Year 2022 (FY 2022) discretionary budget request. The request, which the president submitted to Congressional appropriations on April 9, seeks $1.5 trillion in combined defense and non-defense discretionary (NDD) spending, representing an 8.4 percent increase over the FY 2021 enacted level (excluding COVID emergency relief spending.) A more comprehensive annual budget proposal including requests for mandatory programs and changes to the tax code is expected later this spring.
NACo’s executive summary for counties highlights agency and programmatic requests of note for county governments and discusses the legislative outlook for the request.
NACo will continue to monitor the federal budget and appropriations process and its implications for county governments.
