    Counties share plans to join Operation Green Light this Veterans Day

    As Veterans Day approaches, counties across the country are sharing plans to participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans. The initiative aims to shine a light on the issues veterans and their families face, as well as the important resources available for veterans at the county level. Counties are showing appreciation for veterans by hosting events, distributing green lights, and promoting resources. NACo will continue to share county plans to participate in Operation Green Light and highlight the important role of counties in helping connect veterans with resources and benefits.

    Douglas County, Neb.

    Douglas County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution to join Operation Green Light and light the county courthouse green. The County Veterans Service Office is working hard to encourage businesses and organizations to light their buildings and structures green from November 7 to 11 as well.

    Clermont County, Ohio

    Clermont County Commissioner David Painter promoted Operation Green Light on WKRC 550 Talk Radio with Veterans Service Officers. The county plans to include more media rollouts including press releases and County news releases as Veterans Day approaches.  

    Davie County, N.C.

    Davie County Board of Commissioners is hosting a veterans breakfast encouraging attendees to bring their DD214 forms for registration at the Register of Deeds Office. These forms are crucial for families to receive benefits and over 75 discounts from local businesses across the county. The Veterans Service Office is also distributing yard signs and green light bulbs throughout the month and encourages residents to purchase green light bulbs from local businesses.

    Montgomery County, Md.

    The County Executive and County Council released a Joint Proclamation to light the Memorial Plaza in Rockville green from November 7–13. Montgomery County is hosting a virtual tribute to honor county veterans who have served in the military.

    Guilford County, N.C.

    Guilford County launched a webpage to share resources and encourage participation in Operation Green Light. The page encourages businesses and residents to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #GuilfordGlowsGreen. Guilford County Veterans Services also shared resources, including behavioral health services and details on the Thank-A-Vet Discount Program.

    Alexander County, N.C.

    Alexander county announced its participation in a press release, encouraging all residents to join Operation Green Light. The County’s Veteran Service Office will also be providing free green light bulbs to veterans.

    Polk County, N.C.

    Polk County will be participating in Operation Green Light by lighting the county courthouse green from November 7–11. The local American Legion Auxiliary and Foreign Wars Auxiliary also purchased 200 green light bulbs to distribute throughout the community.

    Kansas Association of Counties

    The Kansas Association of Counties (KAC) posted a graphic on social media to spread the message on Operation Green Light and show support for veterans. KAC shared NACo’s resources and encouraged all counties in the state to join the initiative.
