Vernon Smith

Senior Associate – Justice

Vernon Smith is the Senior Associate for Justice in the County Innovations Lab. In this role, he will provide counties with educational programming on a range of issues addressing local corrections systems with the goal of helping counties more effectively and efficiently use public dollars.

Prior to joining NACo, Vernon supported program management as an analyst at the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid office. He also has experience as a social worker at Year Up and a researcher at the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority. Vernon holds a master’s degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s in Sociology from Northwestern University.
