WASHINGTON, D.C. —The National Association of Counties (NACo) and National League of Cities (NLC) announced today that they will co-locate their headquarters at 660 North Capitol Street in Washington, D.C. in late 2016. The move allows Washington’s two leading local government organizations to leverage each other’s expertise and coordinate efforts to help thousands of local leaders build stronger communities, advocate on national issues and raise the public’s understanding of the roles of county and city officials.

The new headquarters, which were designed collaboratively, will help advance NACo and NLC’s mutual priorities and foster innovative partnership. The collocation will occupy three floors of the 660 North Capitol Street building and house state-of-the-art conference and meeting spaces. The building will meet the USGBC’s LEED Gold certification for green building.

“Cities and counties work together every day throughout America,” said Clarence Anthony, CEO and executive director of National League of Cities. “This first-of-its-kind collocation allows our members to work more closely with NACo and our partners in Congress to magnify issues that matter most to local officials. Our new headquarters is designed to be a hub of city-based innovation and engagement, as well as a ‘city hall in Washington’ for our members. We are excited to be at the forefront of this collaboration.”

“Collaboration between counties and cities is key to achieving results for our residents,” said Matthew Chase, executive director of NACo.  “This new space will be the center of local leadership and innovation on Capitol Hill.  With our partners at the state and federal levels, we look forward to working more closely with NLC to confront some of the greatest challenges our communities face.”

NACo will relocate from 25 Massachusetts Avenue, taking 39,987 square feet in the new location. NLC will relocate from 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue, taking 33,654 square feet. The organizations will share a 4,730-square-foot state of the art conference center on the first floor.

Located at the southwest corner of North Capitol and G Streets, NW, 660 North Capitol Street is a new, 200,000-square-foot all-glass building on Capitol Hill standing eight stories tall. The building offers floor-to-ceiling, high-efficiency glass and energy-conscious building systems. NLC and NACo will be the lead tenants.

Joe Judge and Ken Patton from JLL represented NACo and NLC in this lease transaction. JLL’s Doug Mueller and Evan Behr represented the building owner, Republic Properties Corporation.

Based in Washington DC, JLL’s national, industry-leading association and non-profit practice group, has assisted over 150 associations and non-profits for a total of seven million square feet.
