Bonny Copenhaver, Ed. D.

President, New River Community and Technical College

Dr. Bonny Copenhaver has dedicated her entire career in higher education to working in community colleges. She sees these institutions as the keys to accessing advanced training that for so many can seem unattainable. She started her career at Northeast State Community College located in Blountville, Tennessee as an instructor of English and Theatre. Since moving into administration, Bonny worked at Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee, Motlow State Community College, in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Superior, Wisconsin. Bonny became the President of New River Community and Technical College in Beaver, West Virginia in January 2019.


Bonny graduated from East Tennessee State University with her BS and MA in English and Ed. D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. Additionally, she holds a graduate certificate (18 graduate hours) in women’s studies from Western Kentucky University and a second MA in Social Responsibility and Sustainable Communities also from Western Kentucky University.
