David Thompson

President and Managing Director, NACo FSC

David is currently the President and Managing Director of the NACo Financial Services Center.  The mission of the FSC is to deliver national value-added enterprise programs that offer solutions and savings to our members and partners. Before joining NACo, David was the Executive Director of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for ten years. He provided day-to-day administrative oversight and coordinated advocacy, research, communications, member services and internal support functions. From 2000-05, he was a Managing Principal and COO/CFO of one of the largest and oldest architectural, engineering and consulting firms in the Carolinas.  

David received his Master's in Public Administration from NCSU in 1981. While in graduate school, he served as a Special Assistant to the Director of Administration of the USEPA in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. He has an extensive background in county government, beginning as the Administrative Manager for Mecklenburg County Engineering in 1982.  He subsequently served as the county manager for Hertford, Stanly, Henderson, and Durham Counties in North Carolina.
