Chris Marklund

Associate Legislative Director - Public Lands; Western Interstate Region Liaison

Chris Marklund is NACo's Associate Legislative Director for Public Lands. He is also the Western Interstate Region Liaison.

Prior to joining the NACo team, Chris served as the Legislative Director for Congressman David Valadao (R-CA).  As Legislative Director, he oversaw the day-to-day legislative operations of the office, the public lands, energy, natural resources, and environment issue portfolios, Congressman Valadao’s work on the California drought and his service on the House Appropriations Committee.  Before joining Rep. Valadao’s staff, Chris served as a legislative assistant for Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA), a member of the House Appropriations Committee and current Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies.  As a Legislative Assistant for Congressman Calvert, Chris managed the Congressman’s work on the Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee and related issue portfolios.  Chris began his career on Capitol Hill in the office of Congressman George Radanovich (R-CA, ret.) serving in various capacities in both his California and Washington, DC offices. 

Chris is a native of Madera County in California’s San Joaquin Valley and a graduate of California State University, Fresno.  An Eagle Scout, Chris has a passion for the outdoors and visiting America’s National Parks.  When not in the office, Chris can usually be found on the nearest trap and sporting clays field or tennis courts.
