The National Association for County Community and Economic Development is sponsoring a special pre-NACo Legislative Conference session, especially geared for elected officials.
Dubbed An Economic Development Primer: What Elected Officials Need to Know about Economic Development, the session will be held from 15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28 at the Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The session will begin with an overview of the county role in economic development developing an economic growth policy, setting goals, identifying assets, strategic planning based on the Handbook for County Officials developed under the leadership of then NACo President Vernon Gray.
National experts will discuss understanding the factors that influence business-location decisions and industry cluster analysis (identifying employment needs of county industries and tying workforce development activities to them) and a discussion of federal, state and local resources to promote economic development.
