As part of the recent Rural Action Caucus (RAC) retreat, members of the RAC steering committee recommended that NACo join with other organizations on rural policy issues. As a result, NACo has taken the lead in coordinating a Rural Summit with five other state and local government groups to be held Nov. 2022.
Groups that will participate in the summit include the National League of Cities (NLC), National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), Council of State Governments (CSG), National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) and the National Association of Towns and Townships (NATaT). Up to four key members from each organization will attend with several staff persons.
Boone County (Mo.) Commissioner and NACo President-elect, Karen Miller said, Together, these groups could make a real difference in rural policy and on Capitol Hill on behalf of all rural America.
The overarching goals of the summit are to identify issues of mutual interest and ways to work together to combat the challenges facing rural America. In addition, the groups will discuss ways to prepare for the National Conference on Rural America that was authorized in the recent farm bill.
