CONFERENCES
• Stanford University and Dow, Lohnes and Albertson will hold Best Practices in Web Publishing: A Stanford Workshop for Nonprofits. The conference, held May 20–21, will allow participants to learn the basics of effective Web design and management from design specialists. • The National Technical Assistance Center for Children’s Mental Health at the Georgetown University Child Development Center in partnership with the Child, Adolescent and Family Branch of the Federal Center for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration present the 2002 Biennial Training Institutes. The institutes will be held July 10–14 in Washington, D.C. at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

The 2002 Training Institutes will focus on developing local systems of care for children and adolescents with or at risk for emotional disturbances, and their families. Offered will be information on how to develop, organize and operate systems of care and effective clinical interventions and supports within them. • Rail-Volution, which is holding its 8th annual conference in Washington, D.C. October 3–6, is seeking presentations. Rail-Volution conducts annual conferences on building livable communities. The National Program Committee is interested in submittals of individual presentations that depict completed projects and/or processes, including: financing mixed-use, transit oriented development; examples of completed transit oriented developments and their relationship to transit and examples of coalitions that have been formed to pursue TOD projects, sustainable communities, and livable neighborhoods. • The Consumer Federation of America will hold its 2002 National Food Policy Conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. April 22–23. With the theme Consumers and Food 2002: New Challenges, New Solutions, the conference will include a focus on bioterrorism in addition to other top nutrition, food safety and agriculture issues. The Water Environment Federation (WEF) in cooperation with the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers, will hold a 2002 WEF Washington Briefing, Innovations in Water Quality, April 17 at the Washington Hotel in Washington, D.C. The event, which will bring together state officials to discuss innovative legislative and regulatory solutions to water quality challenges, will be followed by the WEF Government Affairs Committee strategy sessions, WEF members will have the opportunity to visit Capitol Hill. • The National Business Incubation Association will hold the 16th International Conference on Business Incubation at the Fairmont Royal York, Toronto, Ontario, Canada , April 28–May 1. The NBIA conference will focus on business incubation programs as they relate to addressing the needs of individuals as well as the community. • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released Recycling is Working in the United States. This fact sheet contains the key findings of the U.S. Recycling Economic Information (REI) study. The study shows the important environmental and economic effects of recycling. A PDF file of the fact sheet is attached for your information and use.
