NACo Officers/County Officials

  • NACo was well-represented at Public Technology, Inc.’s (PTI) Annual Member Conference, April 18–20, in Fulton County (Atlanta), Ga. NACo President-elect Javier Gonzales represented the association at the meeting, which drew more than 350 participants. Gonzales, Hennepin County (Minn.) Commissioner Randy Johnson, past NACo president; Bruce Romer, Montgomery County, Md. chief administrative officer; and Jim Ley, Sarasota County, Fla. administrator participated in a roundtable discussion on the technology workforce and GIS issues.

  • Maricopa County (Ariz.) Recorder Helen Purcell and Election Director Karen Osborn recently showcased their county’s elections systems for Elena Verdugo-Arestegul, national coordinator for the Mexican Federal Electoral Institute’s Training and Development Center. Verdugo-Arestegul is visiting the United States in conjunction with the Eisenhower Fellowships Program, which seeks to strengthen relations among emerging leaders throughout the world.

  • Mindy Moretti has joined County News as a senior writer. Most recently, Moretti was publications coordinator for the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, where she designed, edited and laid out the association’s monthly magazine. Before that, she was a general assignment reporter at the Terre-Haute (Ind.) Tribune Star. Moretti is a cum laude graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in English.

  • Former LAN assistant Pat Fernandez has been promoted to database analyst. Fernandez will handle the report catalogue for NACo’s database and NACo’s list sales.

  • Public Affairs Director Tom Goodman moderated “Life Without Chad: Alternative Voting Methods and Systems — Can They Work?” a workshop on elections, April 27 at the New Jersey Association of Counties’ spring meeting.

  • Associate Legislative directors Stephanie Osborn and Bob Fogel spoke before the annual conference of the National Association of County Engineers (NACE) in Bloomington, Minn. April 22-25.

  • Lisa Cole, Enterprise Services director, represented NACo’s Section 457 Deferred Compensation Program at the April 25 meeting of the Texas Conference of Urban Counties in Austin. The Texas Conference of Urban Counties is a nonprofit organization that represents 35 large Texas counties. Member counties represent nearly 80 percent of the population of Texas.

  • Legislative Director Ed Rosado addressed the National Association of Development Organization’s (NADO) opening plenary session in Washington, D.C. April 24. Rosado spoke about rural county issues.

  • Bert Jarreau, NACo chief technology officer, moderated a panel discussion on wireless technologies at Public Technology, Inc.’s (PTI) Annual Member Conference, April 18–20.
