Budget: mixed bag for counties

Since the last issue of County News, the Senate has completed action on its version of the FY2002 budget resolution and will be conferring with the House over the differences between the two versions.
Fifteen Senate Democrats voted with all 50 of the evenly-divided chambers Republicans for a FY2002 budget resolution that cuts President Bushs proposed $1.6 trillion tax cut over 10 years down to just under $1.3 trillion. This followed a last-ditch lobbying effort by GOP leaders and the Bush administration that failed to boost the tax cut any higher.
