NACo Officers/County Officials
  • NACo President Jane Hague and First Vice President Ken Mayfield have been busy on the state association circuit over the past few weeks. Hague spoke Feb. 10 at the Police Jury Association of Louisiana’s Convention and Jan. 30 at the Idaho Association of Counties Mid–Winter Conference. Mayfield addressed his home state’s association, Texas Association of Counties, Feb. 7.
    The officers briefed delegates on NACo’s national legislative priorities for this year and also spoke about NACo’s Commission on Election Reform.

NACo Staff

  • Debbie Slack Katz has joined NACo’s staff as a Health and Human Services associate. Katz will coordinate NACo’s Healthy Families project. Prior to joining NACo, Katz served as director of the Healthy Families program in Howard County, Md. Her career has included supervision of a Maternal and Child Health unit, hospital administration and managing her own political and medical consulting business. She is a licensed nurse administrator and expects to receive an MBA from Johns Hopkins this year.

  • Jason Shedlock is NACo’s new environment assistant. He will staff the association’s water-related programs: wastewater treatment, watershed management and the 5–Star Restoration projects. Shedlock is a graduate of Catholic University, with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. He has worked on Capitol Hill for Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D–Pa.).

  • Andrew Goldschmidt, membership marketing director, spoke to the Wisconsin Counties Association Annual Legislative Exchange, Feb. 6–7, in Dane County to announce the formal membership goal of getting 100 percent NACo county membership in time for the NACo Annual Conference in Milwaukee County, July 2003. There are 43 member counties out of a total 72.

  • Margaret Kennedy, NACo membership coordinator, spoke at the Police Jury Association of Louisiana Feb. 9–10 in Lafayette on making Louisiana a 100 percent membership state in time for the NACo Annual Conference in New Orleans next year. Currently, there are 17 nonmember parishes out of a total 64.

  • Lois Kampinsky, telecommunications and education director, oversaw the retirement education program Grow Your Nest Egg, Jan. 24 in Birmingham, Ala., attended by county officials and HR directors from Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida.
