- Immediate Past President C. Vernon Gray traveled to Santa Clara County, Calif., Oct. 35, to represent NACo at a Public Technology Inc. (PTI) Board of Directors meeting. NACo Executive Director Larry Naake, who is chairman of the PTI Board this year, also attended.
- NACo President-elect Javier Gonzales addressed delegates at the Montana Association of Counties meeting, Sept. 2327, in Hill County, Mont.
Gonzales also addressed urban planning experts at the Woodrow Wilson Institute in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 21 during a conference on metropolitan economic strategy and the global marketplace. Past NACo Presidents Randy Johnson, Hennepin County, Minn. and Barbara Sheen Todd, Pinellas County, Fla. also participated.
NACo staff, Shawn Bullard, associate legislative director, and Martin Harris, Joint Center co-director, participated in the program.

- Sandra Clark, senior education associate, was in Lake County, Ill., Sept. 29, for the kick-off of NACos first on-site Advanced Leadership Training session. The all-day training session focused on overcoming resistance to change.
- Research Director Jacqueline Byers made a presentation on recent Supreme Court decisions and their impact for county governments to the Maryland Association of County Attorneys and Administrators meeting at Rocky Gap, Md., Sept. 28.
- Ed Rosado, legislative affairs director, addressed delegates at the opening general session of the National Association for County Community & Economic Developments 25th Annual Conference in Bergen County, N.J., Sept. 25.
- Deputy Legislative Affairs Director Jeff Arnold addressed Idaho Association of Counties members, Sept. 20, in Boise. His speech was titled Participation is Power: Those Who Show Up, Decide.
Earlier in the month, Sept. 1012, Arnold, along with BLM Liaison Cynthia Moses-Nedd, helped staff the most recent Western Community Stewardship Forum in Estes Park, Colo. At the forums Western counties learn about growth management.
- Associate Legislative Director Neil Bomberg was among a dozen speakers at an International Seminar on Federalism in the Americas. The seminar, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sept. 2122, was sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Germany, the Forum of Federations of Canada, the Center for the Study of Contemporary Culture of Brazil and the Getulio Vargas Foundation of Brazil. More than 150 federal, state and local elected and appointed officials from Latin America were in the audience. Bomberg spoke on the role of counties in the American federal system.
Bomberg was the featured speaker at the Maine County Commissioners Association Annual Conference in Lincoln County (Boothbay Harbor), Maine, Sept. 8. He spoke to an audience of more than 150 elected and appointed Maine officials about the Workforce Investment Act and the important services that NACo can provide to them. Bomberg also represented NACo at the Annual Conference of the Midwest Conference of Counties, Sept. 6.
- On Aug. 28 NACo Joint Center for Sustainable Communities Co-Director Martin Harris traveled to Racine County, Wis. to serve on the judging panel for the inaugural Sustainable Racine Awards. The awards recognize outstanding efforts that enhance the economic, environmental and social quality of the community.
- On the membership beat: Andrew Goldschmidt, membership marketing director, represented NACo at the Texas County Judges and Commissioners Conference, Sept. 2427, in Nuences County (Corpus Christi), Texas; at the Wisconsin Counties Association Annual Conference in Walworth County (Lake Geneva), Wis., Sept. 1720; at the Montana Association of Counties Annual Conference, Sept. 2327, in Hill County (Havre), Mont.; and at the Michigan Association of Counties Annual Conference, Aug. 2022. Maggie Kennedy, new membership marketing coordinator, also attended the Michigan meeting.
