  • On July 28, Neil Bomberg, associate legislative director, participated in a panel on the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, for the U.S. Department of Labor's Civil Rights Directorate. The workshop, which was part of a conference held in Crystal City, Va., was designed to help Labor Department civil rights officials better understand the act and the implementation process.

  • Bomberg was a keynote speaker at a conference on the Workforce Investment Act sponsored by the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, Cuyahoga Community College and the Federation for Community Planning, in Cleveland, Ohio July 22. The conference was designed to assist Cuyahoga County government, business and community based organizations begin to develop their workforce investment plan.

  • On July 14, Bomberg was a panelist on a workshop dedicated to informing members of Federal Executive Boards about public interest groups. His presentation focused on NACo and its role as an advocate for counties in Washington, D.C.

  • On July 12, Jacqueline Byers, director of research, represented NACo on WCEU-TV, a public broadcasting station in Daytona Beach, Fla. She participated in a panel discussion of Y2K readiness. The panel included participants from electric utilities, supermarkets and a therapist.

  • On July 8, Byers was interviewed on cable TV's America’s Voice, where she talked about the results of NACo's Y2K surveys and discussed county government readiness for Y2K.
