NACo Officers/County Officials

  • April 29 C. Vernon Gray, NACo president-elect and Ed Ferguson, director of NACo’s County Services Department, represented NACo in New York City at the 10th anniversary of the Japan Local Government Center.

  • NACo President Betty Lou Ward spoke at the Association County Commissioners of Georgia annual meeting, April 26 at Jekyll Island. Ward gave the conference delegates a report on NACo during their general session. NACo Membership Coordinator Susan Parrish also attended the meeting, where she promoted the benefits of NACo membership.

  • On April 15, Racine County, Wis. Executive Jean Jacobson, who chairs NACo’s transportation and telecommunications steering committee, and Bob Fogel, associate legislative director, met with Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) and senior staff of Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) to discuss transportation issues.

 

NACo Staff

  • Public Affairs Director Tom Goodman recently participated in the selection process for the Public Employees Roundtable 1999 Public Service Excellence Awards. Goodman was also on hand when the awards were presented May 3 at the "Breakfast of Champions" on Capitol Hill. The awards recognize outstanding government programs at the federal, state, county and city levels that demonstrate public service at its best. The county winner was Cuyahoga County, Ohio, for its Safety & Crime Awareness Training Program.

  • On April 21, Winifred Lyday, director of Information Technology Services, was the keynote speaker for the four-state (Montana, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming) 1999 Intermountain GIS Users Conference "Bringing IT to the Community" in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her presentation was titled "GIS: The Tool for Tomorrow."

  • On April 16–17, Ferguson represented NACo in Denver, serving on the screening committee for the National Civic League’s All-America City Award Program.

  • On April 7, Fogel met with the staffs of Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) to discuss aviation issues, and Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.), to discuss telecommunications issues.

  • On April 6, Fogel met with the minority staff of the Senate Commerce Committee to discuss telecommunications issues.
