CONFERENCES
The
Council for Economic Development (CUED) is hosting a series of workshops
on brownfields redevelopment Aug. 6-7 in Denver. The workshops will cover
the following topics: techniques for assessing contamination and cleaning
it up; ways to overcome liabilities associated with brownfields; applicable
federal and state laws; where to get federal, state and local funds, strategies
for community involvement and how to attract private investment.

The
"Fourth International Public Market Conference," Sept. 23-26 in
Seattle, will examine how and why public markets work for the economy. The
conference features a series of workshops covering issues from start-up
considerations for new markets to special concerns of existing markets.
Workshop discussions will include community development, public policy,
market economics and operations issues.

"Partnerships
For Progress: Communication and Understanding ... The Keys to Success"
is the theme for the Council For Public-Private Partnerships' 12th annual
conference, Oct. 14-16 in Atlanta. The conference is designed to offer attendees
both basic and advanced concepts in several major areas of public-private
partnerships. In addition, specific case studies will be presented.

SWANA's
(the Solid Waste Association of North America's) "WASTECON 1998/World
Congress 1998 Technical Program," scheduled for Oct. 26-29 in Charlotte,
N.C., will feature an opening general session, technical sessions and four
training courses offering SWANA certification opportunities. course topics
include Principles of Managing Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management
Systems, Managing Solid Waste Recycling and Paying for Your MSW Management
System.

EPA
will hold its third annual conference, "Brownfields '98: The Basics
and Beyond-Showcasing Successful Partnerships," Nov. 16-18 in Los Angeles.
The conference will bring together many of the stakeholders involved in
brownfields reuse to help generate effective partnerships that promote the
revitalization of contaminated properties.

American Society on Aging is now accepting nominations of journalists whose
