NACo debuts extensive new site on the Internet

By Beverly Schlotterbeck

Imagine 8,000 pages of paper on your desk. That's about a three-foot-high stack. And that's only an approximation of the amount of information you have access to through NACo's new, redesigned, friendlier Web site - www.naco.org.

The sharper, better defined site went online July 10, just in time for NACo's Annual Conference. It was nearly a year in the making and, among its new features, boasts an interactive relation with NACo's database. The "interactivity " allows visitors at the site to custom-design information requests, such as a listing of all the counties within a certain population range, or a listing of all NACo committee members from a certain state.

NACo Executive Director Larry Naake said the redesign should make NACo's significant information resources more readily available to NACo members and boost the site's status as the premier source of county information on the Web.

The new site has eight main "sub-sites" as well as a special sub-site titled Resources - one-stop resource center for county information, including county statistics, model county programs, codes, ordinances, Web site links, research references and clearinghouses on issues affecting counties.

The other sub-sites are:

About Counties - information on counties including statistics, codes, ordinances and model county programs

About NACo - information on NACo, including committees, staff, NACo organization

Publications - digital versions of County News and other NACo publications such as the Leadership Letter, Legislative Bulletin and Coast to Coast

Conferences and Events - information on all NACo's conferences and events, as well as other events for counties

Projects and Programs - information on all NACo' projects and programs broken down by category: Special, Envirnomental, Financial, Community & Economic Development, Workforce Development and Social Services and Awards

Membership - information on NACo membership programs, benefits and member listings including county and corporate members

Legislative Affairs - information on legislative issues affecting counties and digital versions of NACo's policy documents

Affiliates and Associates - information on organizations with whom NACo has special relationships, including state associations, affiliates, caucuses and corporate partners.
