Job: I'm a maintenance supervisor for Shell Chemical Company. Education: B.A. in English and psychology from Southeast Louisiana State University and 26 hours of graduate division courses in administration and supervision at the University of New Orleans. Years as a NACo member: 17 Years in public office: 17 The hardest thing I've ever done: Probably write the zoning ordinance for my jurisdiction. It took me two-and-a-half years because we lacked the money. We did it on a volunteer basis. We provided our own experts. It cost about $7,000. Three people (living or dead) I'd invite to dinner: My grandmother, Emma Maurin; my Dad's father, Frank McTopy; and my father-in-law, Delmont Whittington. A dream I have is to: Be remembered and respected by, first of all my family, and friends as a person who continuously showed up to do the hard jobs. You'd be surprised to learn that I: Am a gourmet cook. The most adventurous thing I've ever done is: To build a fish pond, which I have been building for almost three years now. First it was the pond, then the waterfall, then the gazebo, then the rocks and shrubs and now it's the fish and everything that goes with it. My favorite sport is: Football. I'm most proud of: The fact that I've been successful in raising six children who have turned out to be good, upstanding, hard-working citizens. Every morning I read: The Wall Street Journal, the local newspapers and a few prayers. My favorite meal is: Rack of lamb, with hors d'oeuvres of escargot, caesar salad and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. My pet peeve is: Lack of order. My motto is: If you can't change the direction of the wind, adjust your sails. The last book I read was: Paradoxical Thinking, by Jerry Fletcher. My favorite movie is: I don't have any favorite movies. My grandfather owned a chain of theaters and I worked in them all the time I was growing up, so I don't go to movies. My favorite music is: The oldies and mood-enhancing music.
