Thomas Milne named new
NACCHO executive director


The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) recently announced that Thomas Milne has been selected as the organization's new executive director. Milne, currently the executive director of the Southwest Washington Health District, Wash. will assume his new position on Jan. 5, 1998.

"We are very excited that Tom has accepted this position," said Jane Ford, NACCHO president. "He is well-respected by his peers and has tremendous vision. His contributions at the national level will no doubt have a significant impact on local public health."

Milne has served on the NACCHO Board since 1994, and he has participated in various NACCHO committees for the past 10 years. Milne was a leader in the development of Washington State's Public Health Improvement Plan, which is widely regarded as a landmark framework to improve the capacity of the public health system.

He was also in the inaugural class of the Public Health Leadership Institute and is a member of the Public Health Leadership Society. Milne has received several awards for professional excellence and has published extensively.
