Linda Sims
County Commissioner,
Ingham County, Mich.
Chair of the Labor &
Employee Benefits
Committee, NACo
Title:
County Commissioner, Ingham County, Mich.
Chair of the Labor & Employee Benefits Committee, NACo.
Years in public office/ offices held:
Seven years / county commissioner.
Years involved with NACo:
I've been associated with NACo for seven years. I've been on the board of
directors for five years.
Occupation:
I have a consulting business focusing on customer service, management training
and grant writing.
Education:
I have three and a half years of college at Michigan State in political
science and specialized training.
The hardest thing I've ever done:
I think one of the hardest things I've had to do is cut program services
because of the county not receiving money from the state and national government.
It's difficult, especially when you know a program is working. One of the
areas where this has happened is employment training.
Three people (living or dead) I'd invite to dinner:
My grandmother Ola Waller, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Barbara Jordan
(I served on a panel with her once.) They all gave a part of themselves
to our communities.
You'd be surprised to learn that:
Most people are surprised to find out that I'm a grandmother and I'm proud
of that.
My favorite sport is:
Football.
I'm most proud of:
My family, my kids, my son and daughter and grandson. Also, in the last
four years I suffered a severe asthma attack and I'm proud of how I've been
able to continuously overcome the obstacle of being asthmatic.
Every morning I read:
The Bible and then the newspaper.
The last book I read was:
"How To Be Up on Down Days," by Nell W. Mohney.
My favorite movie is:
"The Color Purple."
My favorite music is:
I like jazz and gospel.
