On May 1-2, Steve Jennings, executive director, Information Technology Center, Harris County, Texas; Jono Hildner, director, Human Resources Administration, Multnomah County, Ore.; Randy Murphy, director, administrative services, Lake County, Ill.; and Terry Wood, commissioner, Duval County, Fla., traveled to Harvard University to participate in a special think tank session to determine the impact of information technology on government.
At the Federation of Government Information Processing Councils' "Management of Change" Conference in Orlando, Fla., earlier last month, several county officials served on workshop panels, including Jennings; Murphy; Wood; and Barbara Todd, commissioner, Pinellas County, Fla.; Director of Information Technology Win Lyday (in photo at right) also attended the meeting, which she helped organize.
On May 21, Lyday took part in the Illinois Association of County Officials Board Meeting, where she gave a presentation at the opening plenary session and sat in on a meeting of the association's financial services board.
Director of Employment and Training Gary Gortenburg (in photo at left) was in Hershey, Pa., May 21-23 at the Employment, Training and Education Conference. Gortenburg was a speaker at a workshop titled, "The Commissioners and Workforce Development: Concerns and Recommendations." Also speaking was Commissioner Harry VanSickle of Union County, Pa. Doug Hill, executive director of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, served as moderator.
