EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

On May 13, NACo President Michael Hightower was in Washington, D.C. for a U.S. Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (ACIR) meeting, where he and Administration representatives, members of Congress, governors and mayors were updated on ACIR's study of the social and economic impacts of gambling. Hightower was accompanied by Legislative Outreach Coordinator Traci Dove.

 

NACo STAFF/COUNTY OFFICIALS

Vice President Al Gore conducted a briefing on the clean air provisions of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act at the White House on May 7. In attendance were Prince George's County (Md.) Council Member Stephen Del Guidice, Arlington County (Va.) Board Member Al Eisenburg and Associate Legislative Director Bob Fogel.

On May 1, Research Associate Naomi Friedman spoke at a workshop titled "Pollution Prevention: Local Government Success Stories" at the New England Environmental Expo in Boston, Mass.

At the "Communities Working for Wetlands Conference" in Alexandria, Va., May 7-9, Manatee County (Fla.) Ecosystems Administrator Charlie Hunsicker gave a presentation on restoring a coastal wetlands park in Manatee County. Also in attendance were Martin County (Fla.) Commissioner Dennis H. Armstrong and Research Associate Abigail Friedman.

Several staff and members of NACo's Board of Directors were in Las Vegas, Nev. for the Financial Services Center (FSC) board meeting May 7-9. Among the attendees were Executive Director Larry Naake, FSC Director Steve Swendiman, Director of Business Partnerships Tom Sweet, FSC Marketing Coordinator Angie Caro and NACo Intern Michelle Stafford.
