BLM seeking comments on new strategic plan for agency

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting comment on the current draft of its strategic plan for public lands management. Comments are due May 2.

Once approved, the plan will help guide the agency's activities for the next several years, including annual budget submissions to Congress and annual work plans. A copy of the draft plan is available on the Internet at <http://www.blm.gov>.

The draft strategic plan builds on the BLM's 1994 Blueprint for the Future. It is organized around the five Blueprint goals:

Each Blueprint goal section contains an introduction and two to six strategic goals. Taken together, the goals presented in this plan are comprehensive, covering all of BLM's major activities and programs. The plan also contains 57 performance goals, against which BLM measures its annual progress.

Comments received by May 2 will be reflected, as appropriate, in the final draft. Other comments will be valuable to us as we implement the plan or for future revisions. Comments should be directed to the Strategic Planning Team by fax: 202/452-5171; or (preferably) by e-mail:<stratplan@wo.blm.gov>.

Other mail may be sent to: Bureau of Land Management, Strategic Planning Team, 1849 C St. N.W., MIB LS-1000, Washington, DC 20240.
