Commissioner Chris Hart, Hillsborough County, Fla., has been appointed chairman of the 1997 National County Government Industry Campaign to promote the payroll savings plan for U.S. Savings Bonds. In this capacity he will also serve on the 1997 U.S. Savings Bonds National Volunteer Committee with other national leaders.

When chairing the Hillsborough County Savings Bonds campaign in Florida, Commissioner Hart achieved the highest percent of employee participation of all counties in the nation.

The U.S. Savings Bonds National Volunteer Committee consists of top leaders from business, education, organized labor, health care and government. The committee provides leadership to the Nationwide Savings Bonds Campaign. Each member leads a savings bonds campaign in their metropolitan area or industry.

The national chair of the 1997 committee is Kenneth T. Derr, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, Chevron Corporation. "Chris Hart and his fellow committee members bring a strength of purpose and the leadership, energy and dedication that will make the Savings Bonds campaign a success," said Derr.

Commissioner Hart recently traveled to the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C., joining Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers, Treasurer Mary Ellen Withrow and Derr for a meeting kicking off the national campaign effort.

Commissioner Hart is continuing a rich history of volunteer leadership and dedicated support that has been the heart of the U.S. Savings Bonds programs since its beginning in 1941.
