Commerce Dept., NACo sponsor nat'l forum

In conjunction with the U.S. Department of Commerce, NACo recently sponsored a national forum on economic development. The forum, held Feb. 4, drew 300 participants.

NACo's Community and Economic Development Steering Committee Chair Tim Davis, Summit County, Ohio executive, presided over the plenary session.

Opening session speakers included David Lane, director of policy for the Department of Commerce; Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.), ranking minority member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee; Congressman Jim Oberstar (D-Minn.), ranking minority member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; and Jesse White, federal co-chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Panelists examined a number of issues, including "best practices" in economic development partnerships, methodologies for measuring the success of economic development tools and best practices in economic development from around the country.
