CONFERENCES

The Alliance for National Renewal (ANR) will be holding its last conference of 1996 in conjunction with the National Civic League's 102nd National Conference on Governance Nov. 7 in Washington, D.C.

The sessions will focus on public-private partnerships and their role in community renewal.

Designed for those who provide information technology (IT) direction to local, state and federal jurisdictions, the Investment Strategies for Government IT workshop will be held in Cambridge, Mass., Nov. 21­22.

Sponsored by the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the workshop will explore improving systems and approaches for funding IT in the public sector, clarifying and sharing what is happening in the field, identifying options suggested by recent research, and helping participants develop action agendas for the future.

TELECONFERENCE

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) will hold a teleconference on public-private partnerships and privatization between municipalities and water utilities on Nov. 14 from noon to 3:30 p.m. EST.

The topics of discussion are how to work with local governments to secure water and wastewater contracts, privatization feasibility studies, the implications of structural change in the water industry, and the use of strategic technology planning to improve the competition of utilities and motivate organizational change.

FELLOWSHIP

Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships announces an opening for a one to three month fellowship in Budapest, Hungry for fall 1997.

The fellowship seeks to promote international relations among emerging leaders throughout the world and is appropriate for those in local and state government who have leadership backgrounds.

COMMUNITY AWARD

BRAVO, the film and arts network, is taking applications for Bravo Arts for Change, an award program that provides national recognition and financial support to local groups using the arts to make a difference in their communities.

Four community organizations will be awarded $2,500 and each will be the focus of a 30-second public service announcement produced for BRAVO's Arts for Change public service campaign.
