The National Organization on Disability (NOD) and the United Parcel Service (UPS) have teamed up and are now offering counties, towns, and cities $30,000 in cash awards through their 1996 Community Awards Competition.
All communities are eligible for the $10,000 Grand Prize, which will be awarded to the best overall competition entry. In addition, counties are eligible for:
· $3,500 First Place Prize
· $2,000 Second Place Prize
· $1,000 Third Place Prize
Only one entry may be made per community. To enter, provide each of the following four descriptions. (% is weight applied to each question in judging entries.)
1. Describe your community's goals in 1996 to increase the participation of people with disabilities. (20%)
2. Describe the program(s) or project(s) your community implemented to achieve its goals. (25%)
3. Describe and document the results achieved in each program or project included in item 2. Specify how many people with disabilities participated in each program or project. (50%)
4. Describe how your community will use any cash awarded. Please be specific. (5%)
These descriptions must be accompanied by a 1996 Official Entry Form.
Applications must be postmarked by Oct. 31, 1996.
