Every day in America 2,660 babies are born into poverty, 2,833 drop out of school, and 8,493 children are abused or neglected.
On June 1, 1996, NACo will join with the Childrens Defense Fund and more than 1,000 national, state and local organizations to sponsor a national day of commitment to and for children. The event will take place at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Stand for Children Day will be a nonpartisan event to promote family and community renewal, celebration and commitment to improving the quality of childrens lives.
Through this event, Americans are being asked to rededicate themselves individually, and as a national community, to making sure that our children grow up with strong values and self-confidence, with a good education and good health, with enough to eat, and in a safe and caring community.
