CONFERENCES

• The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) will sponsor several seminars in Nashville, Tenn., April 22 –25, on the following subjects: Effective Budget Presentation, Planning and Sale of Municipal Bonds, Advanced Financial Reporting for Governments, Budgeting for Budget Analyst, Internal Auditing for Governments and Intermediate Governmental Accounting.

Also, on June 24, GFOA will hold a seminar titled “Understanding and Calculating Arbitrage Rebate” in Columbus, Ohio. The cost is $280 for members and $330 for non-members.

• On April 25–26, the International City/County Management Association will conduct two workshops, one titled“Managing Disputes in Your Community: Collaboration, Consensus Building & Conflict Resolution,” and a second on military base reuse.

The first workshop will teach participants various collaboration methods and models to build consensus and prevent conflict. The second will feature short panel presentations by successful local government officials who will share their innovative solutions to challenges in specific aspects of base reuse; and military personnel will provide insight into their requirements and processes.

• On June 23–27, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) will hold its Annual Conference and Exposition in Toronto, Canada.

Various experts will address issues such as water quality, regulatory activities and safety. Exhibitors will also be there to share their latest innovations in the drinking water industry.

• The Bureau For At-Risk Youth has produced six gang prevention videos to help parents and educators keep young people away from the dangerous appeal of gang involvement.

The titles include “That Old Gang of Mine: Incarcerated Gang Members Talking,” “The Gang’s Not Here,” “Graffiti: The Language of Gangs,” and “Urban Turf.”

“We All Live Downstream” is the newest video released by the Oregon State University Extension Service, which examines urban and rural runoff and the problems it creates for surface and ground water. The cost is $30.
