Counties across the nation will celebrate National Volunteer Week, April 2127, with a variety of activities including receptions and award ceremonies.
Last year NACos Volunteerism Project developed a volunteer recognition packet to assist county officials and volunteer coordinators in planning recognition activities for volunteers working in county government. The packet is again available to counties free of charge and includes the following:
ideas for activities, including examples from counties
a sample proclamation to be signed by elected officials
a press release that can be tailored to your countys program, and
a volunteerism fact sheet.
With many counties experiencing budget cutbacks, volunteers have played a vital role in helping counties meet the growing demand for services. Volunteers contribute thousands of dollars worth of service while becoming more knowledgeable and involved in their local government.
Volunteer recognition and appreciation is critical to any programs success. National Volunteer Week is an annual event sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation to recognize volunteer efforts throughout the nation.
