The 1996 Legislative Conference, March 15, will provide many of you with informative legislative and educational sessions.
You will network with other county officials, take part in roundtable discussions, vote on legislative priorities, and meet with congressional leadership. Attending the conference will help prepare you for the months of primaries, campaign speeches, conventions and ballot casting ahead.
The 1996 Legislative Conference is planned around you, our members. It is your opportunity to identify the legislative priorities for 1996, and to develop the political strategies and positions of your association around those priorities. The American County Platform, begins to take shape during this conference as the 12 legislative steering committees meet to formulate their priorities for the year.
NACos system of identifying legislative priorities mirrors the democratic processes our country stands for. A bipartisan association, NACo allows its members to discuss, debate and vote on the issues. The priorities that are outlined this year should once again prove to be reflective of the counties that make up our membership and the people that make up the counties Republican and Democrat, young and old, rich and poor, majority and minority, large and small. The diversity of NACos membership ensures that the association remains responsive to the issues germane to all counties.
If you are attending the conference, please stop by the NACo membership booth and tell us how were doing and what we can improve. We will have a few interesting items to give away and would enjoy the opportunity to talk with you.
