CDBG Appropriations Support Letters Circulated in House and Senate

House Reps. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.), Chris Gibson (R-N.Y.), Peter King (R-N.Y.), Robert Brady (D-Pa.), Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.), Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) sent a bipartisan "Dear Colleague" letter to House Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (T-HUD) Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) and Ranking Member David Price (R-N.C.), requesting $3.3 billion for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program in FY 2016. The letter was distributed to House members. NACo staff worked to secure House member signatures.

A total of 113 House members signed the bipartisan CDBG support letter. A copy of the "Dear Colleague" letter is available here . Click here for a list of cosponsors. Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) also sent a "Dear Colleague" Letter to Senate, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (T-HUD) Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ranking Member Jack Reed (D-R.I.), requesting $3.3 billion for CDBG in FY 2016. The letter was distributed to all Senate members. NACo staff worked to secure Senate member signatures. A total of 36 Senators signed the bipartisan CDBG support letter. A copy of the "Dear Colleague" letter with signatures is available here . CDBG assists urban, suburban and rural counties in improving housing and living conditions. Counties use the flexibility of CDBG to partner with private and nonprofit sectors to address local community and economic development, housing, water, infrastructure and human service needs.
