In an effort to provide county officials with useful and timely information, NACo has commissioned and/or conducted opinion and data surveys on county finance, administration and services. Once the surveys were completed, the Research Division analyzed the results and produced a report summarizing the findings. The following survey reports are available.

01/13/2010 - Immigration Focus Questionnaire - January 2010
In late December 2009, the National Association of Counties conducted an Immigration Focus Questionnaire of its Immigration Task Force and pertinent steering committees and caucuses to help determine the organization’s position on future legislation. The results were due the first week of January.

11/06/2009 - How Are Counties Doing? An Economic Status Survey - November 2009
In mid October 2009 NACo conducted a survey to look at the continuing impact of the economy on a sample of counties across the country. The sample group was made up primarily of midsize to smaller counties. Media reports of the impact of the economy have largely focused on the counties with the largest populations, but the majority of the counties in the country are midsize or smaller. This survey reveals that the downturn is widespread and is impacting counties of all sizes from several directions.

08/14/2009 - Where the Rubber Meets the Road: County Officials’ Views on the Economy and Other Issues
The National Survey of County Elected Officials—conducted by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Center for the Study of Counties (NCSC) at the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government—is an effort to help understand the views and opinions of those who have been elected to run America’s counties. Now in its sixth year, this survey continues to communicate the opinions of those elected officials who collectively represent Americans at the local level of government.
