Counties Serve America
Counties Serve America is a national initiative to address public confidence in government and to raise public awareness and understanding about county governments -- what counties do and how they serve their citizens.
The goal of this initiative is to inform citizens about the roles and responsibilities of county governments while encouraging citizens to become more involved with their local governments. The focal point of the project is to create a positive legacy for future generations, and to provide a role for community-minded citizens who want to preserve the American dream. It is truly an initiative about taking "responsibility" for America.
The two projects that are part of this program are the Acts of Caring Awards and National County Government Week. The Acts of Caring Awards is an annual awards program that recognizes the top county volunteer programs in the country. First celebrated in 1990, National County Government Week was initiated to raise public awareness about counties. The activities during NCGW help citizens better understand how counties respond to their needs and how counties serve the nation.
Counties Serve America is a long-term project of NACo in partnership with Nationwide Retirement Solutions.
