Educational Services

The Educational Services Division develops and organizes workshops, seminars, institutes, and publications that help elected and appointed county officials improve their leadership skills in five areas of practice: 1) Communications; 2) Advocacy; 3) Strategic Governing; 4) Catalyst; and 5) Principled Practitioner.

Education and Training Director:  Ruth Nybro

Advanced Leadership Training (ALT) Seminars
Full and half-day pre-conference seminars are scheduled in conjunction with NACo’s Legislative and Annual Conferences and may also be scheduled in your county or state.

County Leadership Institute (CLI)
This intensive 3 and-a-half-day program is a joint project between NACo and New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.  It is held yearly in late Spring/early Summer in New York City.

County Leadership Handbook
This publication is designed for newly-elected officials and provides tips, tools, and resources as well as insight and wisdom from veteran officials.  The Handbook is distributed through state associations of counties and is free of charge.
