National Association of Counties
As part of the NACo-EPA Total Maximum Daily Loads Partnership, NACo, in cooperation with the with the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) held a workshop on December 9th at AMC's conference in Duluth, Minnesota.
Presenting at this workshop were: Sarah Furtak, Environmental Protection Specialist for the US Environmental Protection Agency, Brian Brandt Director of American Farmland Trust's Agricultural Conservation Innovation Center , Don Carlson, TMDL Coordinator for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and Laurie Brown, a member of the Onsite Sewage Treatment Program Team with the University of Minnesota Cooperative Extension.
The workshop covered the basics of EPA's Total Maximum Daily Loads Program and the ways in which county officials and staff can participate in the program. Speakers also discussed American Farmland Trust's partnership with counties and local farmers to implement water management practices, the new Minnesota Pollution Control Agency educational materials for county officials as well as local projects and practices currently implemented in Minnesota. Panel members all gave overviews of different aspects of water quality management and answered questions during the discussion periods.
The session was moderated by Jon Evert, Commissioner, Clay County, Minnesota.
